This rock table, called the Poulnabrone Dolmen, is a portal tomb. Four thousand years ago, it was a grave chamber in a cairn of stacked stones. This was a seabed a mere 250 million years ago (a short nap in geological time), when Ireland was at the equator, before continental drift had nudged it north.
